Testimonials

"I have been coming to Yume for 6 months, I really enjoy my 'pamper time' on Thursdays as I could stay there all day. The salon is customer friendly and always relaxing."

About us

Yume was a dream that was waiting to happen for long term friends Giovanna McCarthy and Jacqui Caley. Their friendship blossomed right at the beginning of their hairdressing careers and after 19 years and a multitude of hairdressing ventures together and apart, felt it was finally the right time to take their friendship and skills to another level to create Yume in August 2006.

Not only do Giovanna and Jacqui share their friendship with you here at Yume, they share the same high standards and professionalism along with a rich blend of individual and varied hairdressing skills, knowledge and creative innovation.

Salon philosophy

We ensure that as a client you are treated with professionalism, expertise and exceptional high standard of customer care and concern for your hair health and beauty needs.

It is important to us that at the end of each visit here at Yume, that you are completely happy with the way you look and the way you feel.

As Yume evolves with the industry trends we shall continue to educate and share our knowledge, innovation and creativity so that you our client evolve with us, with new possibilities and above all a new you!

Giovanna McCarthy – (Salon owner/Hairstylist)

Within 19 years, I feel lucky to have achieved many of my personal goals within my hairdressing career, these include Salon Management, Photographic work, Fashion shows, Bridal hair and Teaching Hairdressing up to NVQ Level 3.

What is wonderful is that I am now in the process of combining all of these skills into the next step of my career ladder – a Hair Health and Beauty Business – Yume, a vision of a concept that makes people look and feel their best – all under one roof.

I thrive on making a difference to the way people look and feel, and enjoy a lengthy consultation where I can advice the very best products to maintain healthy and beautiful looking hair.

Jacqui Caley – Salon owner/ Hairstylist

Over the last 19 years, I have obtained a vast variety of skills that have utilised my creativity in various ways. Throughout this time my interest and skills in hairdressing have been developed both on land and during my time on cruise ships. I am trained and experienced in all aspects of hairdressing, for me its 'hair sculpture' where I enjoy working intuitively, organically and above all creatively. I rise to a challenge and enjoy client transformations, particularly with restyling and hair-up creations for formal/wedding hair. My future aspirations are to develop my skills in the world of avant-garde hair sculpting and photography work to really let my creativity run wild!

Jacqueline Forrest – Style Director

I am a creative stylist with over 20 years experience in hairdressing. After qualifying I worked as a junior stylist and then decided to travel and work in Europe to broaden my horizons.

After my travels I decided to retrain to specialise in cutting; starting at Vidal Sassoon and then at Toni & Guy where I then worked for the next 10 years. During this time I found my creative flare and I have now specialised in cutting for over 12 years.

Cutting and styling is where my passion truly lies and I love working organically to create new styles and shapes to suit individuals bone structure, personal style & lifestyle. I have had some of my work published for magazines and have also travelled to the Toni & Guy London academy numerous times for further training in advanced cutting techniques.

I take pride in keeping up to date with new trends and try to stay one step ahead creating my own interpretation of fashion and modern styles.

Melanie Pardoe – Stylist

From being at Yume from its very beginning, and the beginning of my hairdressing career, I have seen myself develop in so many ways personally and professionally. It's been a great journey!

Over the years my essential understanding of customer care and all round hairdressing ability has developed a great deal. I really do enjoy all aspects of hairdressing but I particularly love working with colour, especially when I see the transformation in the client and end result.

I have obtained varied experience from participating in salon and marketing events, theatrical, fashion show and photo shoot styling. Attending both a Wella Colour Course and TIGI Cutting Course in London, has pushed my interest and skill further, I hope to attend the Wella Master Colour Programme to not only improve my level of skill and knowledge but also the teams technical skill and what the clients at Yume can experience, through more creativity, diversity and expertise.

Charlotte Sims – Assistant Salon Manager / Stylist

Since joining the Yume team almost 5 years ago, I have had so many different opportunities and experiences - from Styling alternative hair for magazine front cover photo shoots, to working abroad in Cyprus for 3 months specialising in hair styling for outdoor weddings. I have now brought this experience back to Yume and am focusing on broadening my horizons with salon management and business qualifications to explore hairdressing from yet another perspective.

As much as I enjoy the more alternative side of hairdressing, I also take great pride in creating bespoke cuts and colours for my clients - from the sharpest and sleekest of bobs, to the wildest of undercuts and Mohawks! I feel it's important for styles to reflect the individual's personality and suit their lifestyle and I love creating a range of different looks!

Mary Foley – Trainee Stylist

From a young age I have always had a passion for hair. Now that I am working at Yume, I am really enjoying seeing what hairdressing is all about and how diverse hair can be and what it can do!

What really excites me is seeing a complete transformation from start to finish. Working as an assistant to the stylists I am able to observe and soak up valuable skills and information, so that one day I will be able to put it all into practice with my own clients.

As well as this, I am really excited to get involved in competitions and developmental courses to push my progress.

Lauren Leslie – Salon Assistant

I joined the team at Yume just over a year ago as an assistant, and I love it! Already I've had the chance to try lots of different aspects of Hairdressing, including colouring, styling and cutting - although I really enjoy the creativity of Hair-up and I look forward to doing more of this in the future.

I really enjoy the fact that I meet new people every day and I love seeing a stylist completely transform someone by changing their hair - I really can't wait to be doing this myself on a daily basis.

I also would love to be involved in courses and competitions as my training progresses and am entering my first ever hair-up competition this summer which I hope is the first of many!
